THE STARTUP PITCH COMPETITION
Year-Round
The Legacy Classic looks to make a direct impact on black-owned startups via the Legacy Classic Startup Pitch Competition. In the last two editions, the Legacy Classic, Michael B. Jordan, MaC Ventures, and Serena Ventures have raised over $1.5M for the world’s top early-stage companies whose founding teams are at least 50% black.
THE GIVEBACK
Thursday, February 1 | Malcolm X Shabazz High School
In honor of our third year, we’re expressing our gratitude to the warm embrace of Brick City. Our partnership with the esteemed Shabazz High School involves enhancing their basketball facilities with brand-new hoops, bleachers, scoreboards, and a court redesign to accommodate multiple games at once. These upgrades will be executed by the district facilities team, ensuring that our investment benefits the community. To commemorate this contribution, we’ll host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a community day, inviting influential figures from Newark to explore the revamped gym and savor a day filled with music and light refreshments.
Boardroom x Legacy Classic Sports and Entertainment Summit
Friday, February 2
This year’s take on a career fair will take networking and fellowship to the next level. The Legacy Summit will be a one-day, invite-only immersive experience for HBCU students and young black professionals to hear from top executives across sports, entertainment, and culture.
The event will feature breaks in between panel sessions with a DJ and full production for added entertainment. Throughout the panels, there will bean open space provided for participants to gather and engage in discussions. The program will include three high-level panel conversations, delving into the intersectionality of sports, entertainment, and culture.
HOMECOMING: OFFICIAL LEGACY CLASSIC KICK OFF PARTY

Last year’s welcome party function was on point, but this year, it’s up! VIPs and Partners will join us as we welcome a star-studded list of a-list guests to kick off the Legacy Classic weekend with live performances, food, and celebration!
THE COLLEGE FAIR
Saturday, February 3 | Prudential Center Concourse
The Legacy Classic College Fair provides tri-state area high school and other prospective college students exposure to the HBCU landscape. In partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, the College Fair takes place on the concourse of the Prudential Center the day of the games, February 3rd 2024. Last year 29 HBCUs participated in the fair.
Legacy Talks
January 2024
An episodic digital series where our host, HBCU Ambassador, Terrence J will travel to meet with some of the some of the country’s top HBCU alumni to have a conversation about their respective legacies and how their HBCU experiences shaped who they are.
